Workshop on Spatial Statistics Short Course on INLA

Colorado State University

On April 10-11, 2013, the Department of Statistics at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado will host a two-day workshop on spatial statistics. On the first day, Håvard Rue and Daniel Simpson from the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology will present a short course on integrated nested Laplace approximation (INLA) which is an approach for fast Bayesian inference. Their methods are focused on statistical inference for latent Gaussian Markov random fields. There is an R package that will be described (R-INLA:www.r-inla.org) as well as recent advances to speed up computations for continuous Gaussian random fields.

The second day of the workshop will consist of talks from invited speakers who will present recent developments in spatial statistics. The conference will include a poster session and mixer the evening of the first day. This conference is sponsored by the CSU Department of Statistics and STATMOS: the Research Network for Statistical Methods for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (www.statmos.washington.edu).

Space for this workshop is limited. Registration is now open, and please register early to guarantee a spot at the workshop. Registration information is available at: http://cns.natsci.colostate.edu/conferences/SSworkshop/.
