North Carolina State University

To continue enhancing the learning of our students, we will offer next year 9 special topics courses, with a particular emphasis on the training of our students to develop the computational skills statisticians need to become indispensable in this new area of Big Data.

Special Topics courses to be offered in Fall 2012:
ST790 Asymptotic Statistics — Dr. Subhashis Ghoshal
ST790 Advanced Survival — Dr. Wenbin Lu
ST810 Advanced Spatial — Dr. Elizabeth Mannshardt, and Dr. M. Fuentes
ST810 Functional Data Analysis — Dr. Ana-Maria Staicu and Dr. Arnab Maity

In the Spring 2013, we plan to offer the following:
ST790 Advanced Bayesian Analysis — Dr. Sujit Ghosh
ST810 Breakthroughs in Statistics — Dr. Leonard Stefanski
ST810 Financial Statistics — Dr. Peter Bloomfield
ST810 Advanced Statistical Computing — Dr. Hua Zhou & Dr. Eric Laber
ST810 Causal Inference — Dr. Butch Tsiatis

Computing Courses:
ST445 – every Spring, this Summer for first time – SAS programming course; minimal ST prerequisite; similar coverage as SAS Base Certification, but some different emphases
ST590G – Fall for past four years – Advanced SAS: macros, ODS, text processing, simulation; also regular expressions; web scraping
ST 758 – Fall for past five years – Computer Arithmetic; Numerical Linear Algebra; functions; optimization & MLE’s; simulation study design, implementation, and analysis
ST810 – Advanced Statistical Computing — Spring 2013 (Laber & Zhou) – Research tools, parallel computing, special optimization methods,
ST545– proposed for Summer of One Year MStat -SAS programming, advanced methods, intro to R – roughly one third each
